Taiwan has announced plans to extend the validity of its Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) from six months to one year, aiming to attract more international remote workers.
The National Development Council (NDC) revealed that this extension will allow digital nomads to reside in Taiwan for up to a year, with the possibility of further extensions.
This initiative is part of Taiwan’s broader strategy to address labor shortages and stimulate economic growth by welcoming foreign talent. The NDC also plans to collaborate with cities in Japan and South Korea to create a network of destinations for digital nomads, offering resources to foster innovation and creativity.
Local governments in Taiwan, including Hualien, Tainan, Taitung, and Pingtung, have expressed interest in attracting digital nomads to their regions. After spending a year in Taiwan, digital nomads may be eligible to apply for the Employment Gold Card, which permits employment or business establishment in the country.
The NDC estimates that there are currently about 35 million digital nomads worldwide, a number expected to rise to 40 million by 2030.
