Man Who Fired Multiple Rounds at Tesla Vehicles in Nevada Faces Up to 70 Years in Prison

A Las Vegas man has pleaded guilty to federal charges connected to a March 2025 attack on a Tesla Collision Center in Nevada. The announcement was made by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada, confirming that the case is now moving toward sentencing.

According to court documents, the incident took place on March 18, 2025, when Paul Hyon Kim allegedly targeted the Tesla facility. Prosecutors said Kim spray painted the word “RESIST” on the front entrance of the building before damaging the property and multiple Tesla vehicles parked at the site.

Damage to Surveillance and Vehicles

Federal prosecutors stated that Kim used a firearm equipped with specialized components to disable surveillance cameras at the location. Authorities said he then fired multiple rounds into Tesla vehicles parked on the property.

Court filings also state that three Molotov cocktails were thrown into separate Tesla vehicles. Two of the devices ignited and caused fires, while a third did not detonate. In total, five Tesla vehicles were damaged during the incident.

The attack resulted in significant property damage but no injuries were reported.

Charges and Guilty Plea

Kim pleaded guilty to multiple federal charges. These include two counts of arson of property used in interstate commerce, one count of attempted arson of property used in interstate commerce, and one count of unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm classified as a destructive device.

Federal authorities emphasized the seriousness of the charges, noting that arson involving businesses engaged in interstate commerce carries significant penalties under federal law.

Potential Sentence

The mandatory minimum sentence for the charges is five years in federal prison. However, the maximum statutory penalty could reach up to 70 years depending on how the court weighs the charges.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 27, 2026, before United States District Judge Jennifer A. Dorsey. The final sentence will be determined after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory considerations.

Investigation and Agencies Involved

The case was investigated by several federal and local agencies. These included the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The Clark County Fire Department also assisted in the investigation.

Federal prosecutors said the cooperation between agencies helped bring the case to resolution.

As the sentencing date approaches, the court will determine the appropriate penalty under federal law.
