Latest JAMB News Today: 6th February 2025

Hello! If you’re gearing up for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or Direct Entry (DE), it’s crucial to stay updated with the latest from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Let’s dive into the most recent developments as of today.

1. Registration Now Open

Great news! JAMB has officially commenced the registration for the 2025 UTME and DE as of February 3, 2025. The registration window is open until March 8, 2025. It’s advisable to register early at accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers to avoid any last-minute hitches. (businessday.ng)

2. Essential Registration Requirements

Before you head to register, ensure you have the following:

  • National Identification Number (NIN): This is mandatory for all candidates. To generate your JAMB Profile Code, send an SMS with “NIN [space] your 11-digit NIN number” to 55019 or 66019. This Profile Code is necessary to purchase the JAMB ePIN, which you can get from authorized banks, online platforms, or USSD services.
  • O’Level Results: For UTME applicants, a minimum of five credit passes in O’Level examinations (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or GCE), including Mathematics and English Language, is required. These should be obtained in no more than two sittings. If you’re awaiting results, you can still apply but must upload your results before the admission process begins.
  • Direct Entry Candidates: Applicants should have qualifications like ND, NCE, IJMB, or their equivalents from recognized institutions. Ensure you provide your academic transcripts and other supporting documents to validate your eligibility.

3. Age Requirement Update

Starting this year, the Federal Government has announced that candidates below 18 years of age will no longer be permitted to sit for the JAMB examination. This decision aims to ensure that candidates are adequately prepared for tertiary education.

4. CBT Centers Under Scrutiny

JAMB has suspended two CBT centers for 14 days, effective February 4, 2025, due to significant procedural breaches that compromised the integrity of the registration process. The affected centers are:

  • Federal College of Education (Technical) Potiskum CBT Centre 2 in Yobe State
  • A CBT Centre in Otukpo, Benue State

This serves as a warning to other centers to adhere strictly to JAMB’s guidelines. (premiumtimesng.com)

5. Financial Oversight by the National Assembly

The National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance has raised concerns over JAMB’s 2025 budget proposal, particularly regarding the agency’s expenditure in 2024. Issues highlighted include the alleged spending of N1.1 billion on meals and refreshments and N850 million on security, cleaning, and fumigation. JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, provided explanations during the budget defense session, but the committee has threatened to cut the agency’s Federal Government grant if satisfactory clarifications are not provided.

6. Choosing the Right Subjects

Selecting the correct subject combination is crucial for your desired course. Here are a few examples:

  • Medicine and Surgery: Use of English, Biology, Physics, Chemistry
  • Computer Science: Use of English, Mathematics, Physics, and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics, or Geography
  • Law: Use of English, Literature in English, and any two from Economics, Government, or History

For a comprehensive list of courses and their required subjects, consult the official JAMB brochure or visit accredited centers.

7. Recommended Novel for Use of English

This year, JAMB has recommended “The Lekki Headmaster” by Kabir Garba as the official novel for the Use of English examination. Ensure you obtain and study this novel as part of your preparation.
