Make sure you read this article to the end so you don’t miss any thing.
Why You Consider a Home Charger for Your Tesla
The benefits of owning a Tesla car is too much especially when the Tesla is backed up with a Home charger. Below are 4 reasons why you should consider a home charger for your Tesla.
- Convenience: One of the advantages of owning a home charger for your Tesla is that you wake up everyday and see your car is fully charged. With home charger you don’t need to drive to public chargers every time waiting in the line to charge up your car battery. All you have to do is to plug your car overnight and before daybreak it’s charged.
- Cost Savings: Another advantage is that it helps you save money. We all know that charging at home is very cheap than charging at public chargers.
- Time Efficiency: Let’s talk about time management. Imagine going to a public charger to charge your car and you meet a long queue. If it’s me I will just reverse back to my house to sleep because I can’t wait there for the whole day. But with home charger you charge your car while you sleep or go out about your daily work. Nobody will drag line with you.
- Better Battery Health: The last but not the least, charging your car with fast charger like Tesla Superchargers every time will strain your battery. Use your home Level 2 charge romances your battery and extends it’s lifespan.
Things to Consider Before Ordering a Home Charger
I have talked about the benefits, now let’s move over things you need to consider before ordering a Home charger for your Tesla.
- Installation Costs: Bear in mind that installing a home charger requires money to buy the charging equipments like the Tesla’s Wall Connector and others. You will still have to pay electrician that will do the setup for you, but good thing is that is a one-time spending.
- Electrical Capacity: I’m not an electrician but with my little knowledge about electric and electronics not all homes are setup high power chargers like Tesla’s wall connector. You should make sure yours is capable by consulting an electrician before you proceed with your installations. If your home is can’t handle the load, you need to consider upgrading your electrical panels or add dedicated circuit. You electrician will know better.
- Charger Options: Tesla offers the Wall Connector, which is specifically designed for Tesla vehicles. There are also third-party chargers available, but make sure to check for Tesla compatibility and features. For me i prefer Tesla’s option because they are the manufacturers of the vehicle, I believe they will know exactly what my car wants.
- Charging Needs: If you primarily rely on public charging stations or don’t have a dedicated parking space, you might forget about the Home charger until the need arises.
How Much Does It Cost to Install a Home Charger?
Now let’s talk about the cost of installing a Home charger for your Tesla.
If you are going with Tesla’s Wall Connector, the cost is around $400-$500. Then the electrician doing the setup for you might charge between $300-$1500 depending on how simple your setup is.
So when you are planning your home charger your budget should be around $700 to $2000.
Is It Worth It?
For me, investing in a home charger is worth it. Here’s why:
- I no longer drive to public charging stations to charge which inconveniences me most of the times
- Charging at home is more cheaper for me. I know how much I have saved since I installed my home charger and stop charging at Superchargers. I only charge in public chargers on road trips.
- Some people thinks it’s preferable to charge at Superchargers because of the cost of home charger installation without knowing that with long period of charging in Superchargers they spend more if they calculate it.
- Another reason I said home charger is worth it is the fact that you can charge your time anytime you want unlike in peak hours or busy Superchargers.
Meanwhile, if you are living in an apartment or rely on workplace charging, maybe you shouldn’t consider a home charger.
Tips for Choosing the Right Tesla Home Charger

- Hire an electrician to check and make sure your electrical setup can handle an additional load.

Do I really need a home charger for my Tesla?
If you drive your Tesla car always and have a parking space at home you should install a home charger because it saves cost, stress and time. But if you don’t drive always or you don’t have an installation space you can forget about it.
