Tesla Adds Hidden Charging Cable Unlock Trick in Latest Software Update (2025.20) [VIDEO]

Share Facebook Twitter WhatsApp LinkedIn Telegram Reddit

If you’ve ever struggled to unplug a third-party charging cable from your Tesla, you’re not alone — and now, Tesla has a fix for that.

With software update 2025.20, Tesla has introduced a new trick for Model 3 and Model Y owners: You can now unlock and stop charging by simply pulling and holding the rear left door handle for three seconds.

No app. No screen taps. Just one smooth motion.

Why This Matters

Most Tesla Supercharger cables include a button on the plug that lets you stop charging and unlatch the cable — simple and fast. But third-party chargers, especially those using adapters like CCS-to-NACS or J1772, don’t have that feature.

This means drivers have had to:

  • Open the Tesla app
  • Use the touchscreen inside the car
  • Or wait until charging is complete

Now, with this quiet but helpful software update, unplugging just got much easier.

How It Works

Here’s how to use the new charging unlock shortcut:

  1. Walk up to your Tesla (vehicle must be unlocked or detect your phone key nearby)
  2. Locate the rear left door handle — the one closest to the charge port
  3. Pull and hold it for 3 seconds
  4. The vehicle will stop charging and unlock the cable or adapter

This works for both regular Tesla cables and third-party charging adapters, making it especially useful for those who don’t use Superchargers daily.

Small Update, Big Impact for Some

The 2025.20 update isn’t a major release — Tesla engineers are reportedly focused on prepping for the Robotaxi launch on June 12, which may explain the limited scope of new features.

Still, this one-touch charging unlock is a big quality-of-life improvement for drivers who:

  • Use home chargers with no button on the handle
  • Frequently charge at public stations not made by Tesla
  • Rely on CCS or J1772 adapters

It’s a tiny change that’ll go unnoticed by most — but a daily lifesaver for the rest.

What Else Is in Update 2025.20?

Aside from the charging shortcut, this update mostly includes under-the-hood optimizations, bug fixes, and groundwork for future features tied to Tesla’s upcoming autonomy projects.

For the latest feature-packed updates, stay tuned for the expected Robotaxi-focused firmware, which may bring major UI, FSD, and charging enhancements.
